Cummins inks MoU with Government of Maharashtra for mega project at Phaltan

Mumbai: The Government of Maharashtra and Cummins in India have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for the expansion of the Cummins Group of Companies’ three major projects, being developed by the Group in Phaltan, located in the Satara district of Maharashtra. Cummins India’s projects have been granted ‘Mega Project’ status by the Government of Maharashtra as the Group will be investing almost Rs. 750 crores in these expansion projects.

The Group’s expansion projects will be set up on the Cummins Megasite, situated in an area classified as ‘D’ zone: a lesser developed area of the State of Maharashtra. Under the terms of the MOU, the Government will offer Cummins India financial incentives as well as assistance and support in establishing their factories in Phaltan.

The Cummins Megasite will be built on 150 acres of land.The MOU was signed today by Shri. V. K. Jairath, Principal Secretary (Industries) and Mr. Anant Talaulicar, Chairman and Managing Director, Cummins India Limited in the presence of Shri. Vilasrao Deshmukh, Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Shri. Ashok Chavan, Minister for Industries, Mr. Johny Joseph, Chief Secretary, Government of Maharashtra and other senior officials of the State Government.Speaking at the function, Mr. Anant Talaulicar said, “The Cummins group in India has been executing an aggressive growth plan involving all our 10 affiliated companies. Operating from a single campus will offer significant synergies to the Cummins companies. This site was chosen based on criteria such as appropriate skills, proximity to suppliers and customers, and the economic situation in the State. Cummins is looking forward to engaging with the local community on skill and infrastructure development which are very consistent with the Company’s core values and will help build the foundation for a long term, rewarding relationship.”

Mr. Talaulicar pointed out that Cummins has always had a cherished history with the State for several decades and that this State has been its home for a long time. The State Government’s proactive support and the encouraging investment climate were the deciding factors in setting up this Megasite at Phaltan.
